Information about laser cutting materials
Make sure you consider the right material for the job:
For example, acrylic is durable and shatter resistant, but it can scratch. So you wouldn't use it for a coffee table top!
We are happy to advise if you are unsure.
Different timber plywoods will have have different engraving results:
Our timber plywood product pages have information about the different scoring and engraving results.
For instance,
for cork: Cork in sheets of various thicknesses. Cork is suitable for laser cutting and engraving and DIY projects. It is a flexible and porous material.
Colour: brownish tone
Laser Engraving Contrast: very high
Grain: no grain structure
Edge Details: black edge when laser cut
If you need darker engraving, you can offset the laser lends to defocus slightly. This can help improve contrast for low contrast timber.
You can also treat the wood with a mixture of borax and water to get a darker result.

Acrylic sheets have different properties:
Solid: does not allow any light to pass through acrylic
Translucent: allows some light to pass through and object shadows can be seen - amount of light varies between colours
Transparent: allows light to pass through freely and applies a tint to all objects when viewed through acrylic
