What is laser engraving?
Laser engraving works similarly to a printer - the laser head moves from side to side.
But instead of printing ink, the laser beam removes material.
The power, speed and focus settings settings (and more) can be adjusted to get a deeper or shallower result.

How much will it cost to get my item laser engraved
Most lasercutting projects range between $40-$250, but this can vary widely.
The cost of a job is based on the number of drawings or sheets to be cut, the material and labour costs, and the time it takes to cut (which is roughly proportional to the total length of the lines in your drawing and the thickness of the materials to be cut).
Follow our laser services process guide to keep labour costs down and receive your quote efficiently.
What is the difference between laser etching, laser marking and laser engraving?
- A laser engraver can cut, etch, mark and engrave various materials. MC laser have Co2 lasers which can not cut metals. We can mark and etch metals, depending on the specific alloy.
- Laser Marking: Laser processes the surface of metal. High powered laser beams, often with the aid of specialist chemicals to increase contrast and fuse the chemical solution with the materials surface.
Pros: very detailed, quick and leaves a long lasting or permanent white or dark mark on a material surface. - Laser Etching: The laser beam creates shallow marks on metals, changing the surface and altering the chemical composition of the metal. We can not laser etch metals or glass, only mark them. Other materials can be be etched - changing the colour and finish of the surface without making deep marks.
- Laser Engraving: The laser beam processes for a longer duration and physically removes or vaporises matter, leaving a shallow to deep recess, depending on settings.
Raster Engraving
Green Fill – if you want the laser to engrave continuous fill (known as rastering) then you should use a green fill on your drawing.
White Fill – you can use objects with white fill on top of green filled areas to create negative fill e.g. to avoid filling in the centre of letters.
Objects – polylines will need to be continuous to form objects which can be filled. A separate black outline is not usually required.
Note – keep in mind that vector (line) cutting is generally quicker and therefore cheaper than raster (fill) engraving.
